Lonavala in the Western Ghats has a very pleasant climate all year around. People wanting to escape the hot and humid zones can come here from Ending September right upto May. In the winters it can get quite chilly.
Rains are quite heavy at Lonavala and this season sees a large number of people who enjoy the beauty of the rains and waterfalls in and around Lonavala. People come here to get wet during the rainy season.
All year round this place is cool and in the winters it can get cold. It is prudent to pack knits and warm clothes.
For Trekkers and campers it is advised to have ear muffs and adequate protection for the ears against cold winds.
Those camping outside are advised to carry protection against the sun ( Skin Masks ) and Mosquitoes ( Repellant Lotions and creams )
The most preferred route to Lonavala over the past decade has undoubtedly been road. The Mumbai Pune expressway passes through Lonavala and one can easily drive from either of these cities within a couple of hours to reach here.
The best public transport is by bus and the MSRTC runs buses at 15 minute frequency intervals to the cities of Mumbai and Pune. Private tourist operators also have their offices at convenient locations around the State Transport Bus Stand.
One can also reach Lonavala by train.
If you have come via the rail route to Lonavala then it is a two minutes walk from the station.
If you have arrived here by bus then it is a ten minutes walk or 2 minutes by Auto Rickshaw from the bus stand. The Highway drop point from Kings Inn is just a ten minute auto rickshaw ride.
The map is put up for the people who would prefer to drive in their own vehicles.
The city Market is five mins away from Kings Inn and one can shop for the famous Lonavala Chikki and Fudges, the variety available at the counters is mind boggling.
For the trekkers you have Rajmachi Point, Tungarli Lake which one can reach by hiring bicycles too. You have the Bushy Dam and Walvan Dams. The Bodhisatva Karla Caves are 20 kms away from Kings Inn. You have buses that take you there or Kings inn can make arrangements for them or even arrange private vehicles to take you there.
The Twin Hill Station of Khandala is adjoining and here you have the beautiful valley vie points and trekkers walks to Dukes nose. Khandala is misty and cloudy all year round especially in the rains so caution is advised for both trekkers as well as people driving their own vehicles. Do avail of local guides or guidance at all points for the sake of safety as it severely limits visibility.
The Kings Inn is itself a hotel that is locally known for its excellent kitchen and the food that it caters to its guests. Vegetarian, Non-Vegetarian and Jain food is available according to preference.
Everything from Burgers, Pizzas to Udupi cuisine to local specialties are available in the restaurants dotting the market. One has ample choices in cuisine within walking distance from the Kings inn just in the event that one is out and about.
